He declares His word to Jacob, His statutes and judgments to Israel. – Psalm 147:19
For centuries, God has spoken with many people … in many different ways. Of course, He spoke at first to Adam, then to Noah, Abraham, Isaac, all the prophets, and then finally, through His Son. He still speaks, but the important question is, “Has He spoken to you?”
The psalmist wrote of the blessing that Israel had received because God, the Almighty Himself, had declared His word, statutes, and judgments to them. All the other peoples (languages, nations, tribes) dwelling in darkness in that day had not been so blessed. God had spoken to Israel.
We live in a remarkable age. Over five billion people on earth have access to the Scriptures in a language they can understand (if they can read it, but that is another blog). In an age where it is possible to carry your bible on your smart phone, are we who believe blessed like God’s Old Covenant people, because we have received this same Word (His judgments and statutes)?
If God has by His grace revealed His Word to us, then it is an unspeakable privilege to possess it, an unfathomable sin to ignore it, and a certain responsibility to make sure others have it. Got it?
