Instruct a wise man, and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man, and he will learn more. – Proverbs 9:9

There are many possible indicators of an individual’s personal wisdom. Some “wisdom,” like gray hair and advancing years, may be cultural while others may be more measurable, like advanced academic degrees. There is, however, another mark of wisdom that has nothing to do with age or education. In fact, age and education may hinder its development.

This unique mark of sure wisdom is teachability.

The truly wise will always remain teachable. They will cultivate a heartfelt desire to grow in the understanding and knowledge of God made available through His Word, His people, and His world. Only those who are truly foolish (unwise) believe they have “arrived” at a place in life where there is no more to learn.

To be ever-learning is to be truly wise. Remain teachable.

Wisdom doesn’t necessarily come with age. Sometimes age just shows up all by itself. – Tom Wilson
