But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? For everything comes from You, and we have given You only what comes from Your own hand. – 1 Chronicles 29:14
As a pastor, I often spoke of the “blessing” of giving and as a Christ-follower I have often been blessed to experience that blessing … but what, exactly, is it? It is not a feeling of generosity or a self-inflicted “atta-boy” for being so sacrificial. It is also not the receipt of the gratitude of another or the heart-felt thanks from a person or organization you have benefited. While both of these may be real, the blessing of giving is much greater than either one.
God’s blessing through giving is first the realization that beyond your personal desire or ability to do so, He has allowed you to participate in the accomplishment of His divine purpose. Second, it is the sure knowledge that God has allocated and distributed His resources through you! Ultimately, it is the blessing of knowing that the unworthy (we) have been made worthy by the worshiped (Him).
What I gave I have, what I spent I had, what I left I lost by not giving it. – Thomas Ravenscroft
