Lost in Religion

But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began to oppose what Paul was saying by insulting him. – Acts 13:45

Can a person be lost in their religion?

Jesus and His disciples … even those followers committed to His lordship today … have often been met with the greatest opposition from those who are considered the most religious. Why is this true? Is it really possible for someone to so strongly embrace their religion (faith-practice) that they reject Christ in the process?

While religion should be the outward practice of our faith, it sometimes (sadly) becomes a practice that is woefully absent of faith. Those who opposed Paul also, in the name of God, rejected Christ and there are those in our churches today who commit the same error. How can you know? You can identify them by the anger they express when their empty traditions are exposed.

So what is to be done? For the good of the church, Christ’s truth, and their spiritual health, they must be exposed anyway. Just know that it can get ugly.

The problem with writing about religion is that you run the risk of offending sincerely religious people, and then they come after you with machetes. – Dave Barry
