When Simon saw that the Holy Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money, saying, “Give me this power too, so that anyone I lay hands on may receive the Holy Spirit.” – Acts 8:18-19
I, for one, am a fan of shortcuts; however, when I am driving somewhere (and my wife is with me) they rarely payoff. In fact, the result usually ADDS time rather than shortens it and I get to hear, “Nice shortcut!”
Of course, I still find shortcuts attractive … even spiritual ones. Have you ever been guilty of trying one of those? Before you say, “No, how dare you suggest …,” think. Have you ever read a popular book hoping to find an easy solution to a pressing problem yet avoided THE Book (God’s Word) where the more difficult long-term change is usually required? OR, have you attended that special conference to hear that popular speaker yet neglected meaningful time with the greatest Teacher who ever lived?
Shortcuts. Simon tried to buy his. What have you been spending to possess that has already been freely given, if you were only willing to give Him the time?
