Haman told his wife Zeresh and all his friends everything that had happened. His advisers and his wife Zeresh said to him, “If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is Jewish, you won’t overcome him, because your downfall is certain.” – Esther 6:13
At that moment in history when Haman was listening to the words above (from his “friends”), he was probably wishing he had sought out better advisers. Haman’s inner circle (including his wife) were the first to applaud his new-found fame and favor with the king, acknowledge Mordecai’s disrespect, and go on to suggest that Haman should hang Mordecai to further make his point. Yet, when they discovered that Mordecai was Jewish, they were the first to predict Haman’s own imminent destruction.
“Thanks, guys. Great advice.”
All “yes-men” work this way. They appear to be behind you when you are successful, yet they are WAY behind you … like, so far you can’t find them … when you are in a pickle.
It is wise to seek out a circle of advisers that will speak truth to your life in any and all situations, even when you don’t want to hear it. These same folks will be there for you in thick or thin, because they truly care about your character more than your career.
Wise men don’t need advice. Fools won’t take it. – Benjamin Franklin
