Under Foot

Joshua said to them, “Do not be afraid or discouraged. Be strong and courageous, for the LORD will do this to all the enemies you fight.” – Joshua 10:25

When the armies of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish, and Eglon were defeated and brought before Joshua, he told the commanders of the army of Israel to come and put their feet on the necks of the conquered kings. He did this in order that his leaders would know God’s support in future battles. As God had granted Israel these victories, He would continue to grant them victory (based upon their obedience) in the future … and Joshua never wanted them to forget it.

Through His cross-kind of death and subsequent resurrection, Jesus defeated all our enemies. In effect, He placed his foot on the neck of the original sin agent (Satan) and sin itself. In possession of this knowledge, why should we continue to live as if it were not true? God invites each of Christ’s disciples to put their feet on the necks of all their spiritual enemies … to claim the victory that He has already won. The same power that raised Christ from the dead is available to each of us today. The enemy is already under foot.

To succeed in our faith fight we must simply understand that we have already won … and press on!

Battle is the most magnificent competition in which a human being can indulge. It brings out all that is best; it removes all that is base. All men are afraid in battle. The coward is the one who lets his fear overcome his sense of duty. Duty is the essence of manhood. – George S. Patton
