Be Alert!

You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master. – Genesis 4:7

During our final days in Africa in 2011, the stress was greater than I could have ever imagined. With the transition back to the U.S., all of the uncertainties, concerns for family and all the good-byes there … I just didn’t fare well …

… and I never saw it coming. It surprised me. Like an animal crouching at my door, my emotions (maybe because they were so raw), at times, mastered me. As I pondered the experience over the next few months I asked myself over and over again if there was anything I could have done to prevent it from happening. Perhaps not, but I still believe I should have seen it coming.

Many times in the Scriptures, God has said, “Be alert!” We are all in a battle. Our enemy is real. This is not an illusion or myth. He will destroy every one of us, if we allow him to do it. If we forget for one moment that we are victorious in Christ, we are vulnerable. No matter how many battles we have fought and won in the past, EVERY day is a spiritual threat.

Suit up (full armor). Be strong and very courageous. Be alert. We win, yes, but we must still fight.

Be serious! Be alert! Your adversary the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for anyone he can devour (1 Peter 5:8).
