Only God Can

But Jesus said, “You feed them.” “But we have only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered. “Or are you expecting us to go and buy enough food for this whole crowd?” – Luke 9:13

Some of Jesus’ closest followers had a problem … more than 5,000 hungry people needed to be fed. Their first response was to look to their own resources. Their second was to let Jesus (God incarnate) know that there was nothing they could do about it. To sum it up, their response and attitude to the crisis they were facing was informed by a flawed knowledge of the Creator. They did not see the solution in terms of God’s infinite resources, but rather in terms of their own.

How often do we do the same?

If there is a need before you, placed there by God, then you may be assured He will give you everything you need to meet it. Never be persuaded otherwise. We cannot serve God out of the exhaustible depth of our own abilities or resources. We cannot. We might only successfully serve God’s purposes out of the inexhaustible depth of His own.

Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to Him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen. – Paul, the Apostle (Ephesians 3:20-21)
