He Will Build

Jesus also said, “The Kingdom of God is like a farmer who scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, while he’s asleep or awake, the seed sprouts and grows, but he does not understand how it happens.” – Mark 4:26-27

I am a minister of the Gospel and I have had the privilege (over the past 33 years) to pastor four churches, serve as an overseas missionary, and lead or co-lead three mission agencies. In this capacity, I have seen (in multiple contexts and cultures) churches planted and have have seen them grow. I have observed a variety of methods being used by planters and pastors (and have used some of them myself). Some methods were successful and some were not. Why is it that some churches survive and others … don’t?

Apart from the obvious reason that we often fail to “sow,” I don’t really have the answer to this question. I have heard it said that all healthy things grow. This is true, but so do malignant tumors. At the same time, I have often observed “healthy” activity in places where there is little or no growth (numerically) in church presence.

Fact is, JESUS will build His church … everywhere, in every place. The question is, “Will it be with you or without you?”

Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.” – Matthew 16:17-18
