“Look,” Naomi said to her, “your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods. You should do the same.” – Ruth 1:15
Have you ever sensed God’s direction for your life (usually, a combination of Scriptural guidance and prayerful contemplation), but well-meaning friends and family tried to discourage you from following it? Often, God’s direction is specific, private, and misunderstood by others. They just cannot (or will not) comprehend or understand all the reasons you have in obeying the plan of God.
While these friends (or family) are not the enemy, God’s enemy WILL use everything in his power to keep you from obeying God’s will and desires. Peter loved Jesus very much, but Christ once called him, “Satan” because Peter opposed the idea of the Savior’s death on a cross. Naomi loved Ruth, but she still tried to get her daughter-in-law to return to the gods of the Moabites.
Remember this: there is certainly wisdom in a multitude of counselors, but the infinite counsel of God trumps them all.
We give advice by the bucket but take it by the grain. – William R. Alger
