Weeping for a Harvest

Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful shouting. He who goes to and fro weeping, carrying his bag of seed, shall indeed come again with a shout of joy, bringing his sheaves with him. – Psalms 126:5-6

If our hearts are broken over the needs of this world, then our tears will surely flow, but what might be at least one hopeful result of such genuine weeping? The psalmist said that if we sow in tears, we will reap with shouts of joy. It appears that tearful sowing result in a harvest!

Hearts broken over sinful disobedience and ignorance of God’s truth are the foundation of a Christ-follower’s work to reach the lost. Godly sorrow, rooted in and emitting from the hearts of believers, will lead them to spread the gospel to those who have never heard it. Tearful sowing softens the hardened soil of lostness, preparing it to receive the Good News of Jesus Christ.

What a promise! What an opportunity!

Let us, therefore, not be weary of well-doing; for we shall reap an eternal harvest of comfort, if we faint not. – George Whitefield
