But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet and the people are not warned, and a sword comes and takes a person from them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require from the watchman’s hand. – Ezekiel 33:6

God called Ezekiel to be His prophet, His messenger. As God’s prophet, Ezekiel also served as a “watchman” on the spiritual wall for Israel. His task was to warn the Israelites of God’s impending and inevitable (given their sinful ways) judgment. If Ezekiel failed in his God-given task, he would be held accountable, not for Israel’s sins, but for his own negligence.
If we follow Christ, then we are His “watchmen.” He has placed us in a position to be able to see what is coming. Our “world” may not listen, but it still needs to know the danger; therefore, we must be vocal. If we fail to sound the warning, they might die without Christ. Even if we do, this may still occur, but be assured that we will still be held accountable as “watchmen on the wall.”
Because, God Himself placed us there.
History is a vast early warning system. – Norman Cousins
