Then the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” So, the name of that place is called Gilgal to this day. – Joshua 5:9
Where is your “Gilgal?”
Before the Israelites could defeat Jericho and begin to take possession of the land God promised their ancestors, all the young men had to be circumcised. This act of obedience would show God that they were mindful of the importance of His covenant relationship and that they were serious about their own obedience. The shame and disgrace of Egypt was momentarily “rolled away” or “Gilgal-ed” by God. Regrettably, Israel would not continue their obedience. One physical act of contrition could never equal the spiritual transformation that God required.
What about you? Has your shame and disgrace been “rolled away?”
If your heart belongs to Christ, then the only answer is, “Yes!” In the moment that you believed, the shame that you had been carrying all your life was rolled away by Christ’s death on the Cross. You have been purified by His precious blood and your heart has been “circumcised” (the flesh forensically removed) forever. This was your Gilgal. This was your beginning.
Now, by His grace, you will successfully complete your life’s journey, secure in Christ Jesus.
We should be ashamed of our pride, but never proud of our shame. – Anonymous
