In that day the Lord will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the one who is feeble among them in that day will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the angel of the Lord before them. – Zechariah 12:8
There were many Old Testament prophecies that foretold the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70. Colorful language described how even the greatest among Israel’s rulers would ultimately be debased and humbled and, of course, in the end they were.
In contrast, the restoration of the “City of David” in the New Jerusalem places God Himself at its center and every inhabitant a king. Yet, one King would rule them all; a King who is also God. Who is this future King? Of course, it is the Lamb who was slain, the Christ, Jesus! What a glorious promise and assured future for those who worship Him in the here and now.
But, I wonder, is it yours?
Keep fighting the good fight. Run with endurance. Finish your race. Receive His just reward. (1 Corinthians 9:24; Hebrews 12:1; 2 Timothy 4:7)
When I think of death as a thing worth thinking of, it is in the hope of pressing, one day, some hard-fought and well-won field of battle, and dying with the shout of victory in my ear. That would be worth dying for, and more, it would be worth having lived for. – Sir Walter Scott
