If anyone is destined for captivity, to captivity he goes; if anyone kills with the sword, with the sword he must be killed. Here is the perseverance and the faith of the saints. – Revelation 13:10

Throughout biblical history, if it is possible to choose one word that best defines the character of a Christ-follower, I believe that word would be “perseverance.”
In each of the seven letters to the seven churches in Christ’s revelation to the Apostle John, one phrase is repeated, “to him who overcomes.” Apparently, the clearest indicator of a person’s faith is their ability to endure to the end for the sake of Christ; the ability to overcome the trials of this earthly life, revealing a personal hope of heaven.
I wonder if as the Lord observes us in these days, He thinks, “Here is the perseverance and faith of the saints.” And if He does think it, is it an affirmation or an indictment. In a day when compromise is applauded and God’s truth often abandoned, may Jesus find in us the strength to stand firm and persevere.
Faith takes God without any ifs. – D. L. Moody
