Set up for yourself roadmarks, place for yourself guideposts; direct your mind to the highway, the way by which you went. Return, O virgin of Israel, return to these your cities. – Jeremiah 31:21
Though the nation of Judah had earned their much-deserved exile in Babylon, the punishment of being forced to live in that pagan land was devastating. Of course, God had commanded them to surrender to Nebuchadnezzar as chastisement for their multiple years of disobedience, but He had also let them know that one day the punishment would end and they would be restored, even if their children would be the only ones to ever see it. Jeremiah’s words served to remind them that the Father would not forget His people and that they would one day return home.
In the same way, as Christ-followers our sin deserves God’s chastisement, but with His “correction” comes the promise that restoration is possible, if we will just remember the path of our return. There is always a way back. Jesus was our “way,” is our “way”, and will always be “the only way.”
He is our Highway.
A revival is nothing else than a new beginning of obedience to God. – Charles Finney
