Whatever house you enter, first say, “Peace be to this house.” If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you. – Luke 10:5-6
Jesus gave very clear, simple, and purposed instructions to the 70 that He sent out into the Judean countryside.
First, He wanted them to begin to learn dependence upon the Holy Spirit. They needed to know that their sustenance, protection, and success came from God and no other source. Days were coming when He would be all they had in this world. Second, the Lord stressed a singularity of purpose. We see this in His instructions that 1) they not “greet anyone on the road,” 2) that they offer nothing more than God’s peace when they entered a home, and 3) that they remain with the person of peace until He arrived.
These early followers of Christ practiced simple dependence with a singular purpose, as should we. Let us move out today in obedience to Christ’s expressed desire that He might win some to Himself.
It seems the older you get; the more life comes into focus. – John Maxwell
