“It has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!” And Jesus said to him, “If You can? All things are possible to him who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, “I do believe; help my unbelief.” – Mark 9:22-24

In desperation, a father whose son was plagued by a demon brought him to Jesus. When he arrived at the camp, Jesus was not there and none of the available disciples were able to help. By the time Jesus arrived, the father was in total distress. He must have thought that his last hope was hopeless.
It is implied from his frantic words that he believed in Jesus’ ability to help his son, but he was uncertain of Jesus’ identity as Lord and Savior. However, unless the man was willing to trust in Christ, there would be no ministry from Christ. Ultimately, Jesus brought healing to the boy despite his father’s weak, trembling faith.
How often are God’s plans unfulfilled in our lives because of our own unbelief? Yet, how often have we seen the Lord achieve His purposes despite our own trembling faith? Lord, help our unbelief!
God loves with a great love the person whose heart is bursting with a passion for the impossible. – William Booth
