Peter said to Him, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You.” All the disciples said the same thing too. – Matthew 26:35
Though his denial of Christ is magnified in the life and actions of Simon Peter, all the disciples made a similar claim, even Judas. Still today, even with this historical warning from Scripture, similar failings continue to be experienced in the lives of Christ’s disciples.
For example, how often do we claim a consistent, steadfast faith, yet deny that claim by our actions? In addition, we sometimes even give up without trying. We may shun responsibility, because (in our minds) failure is inevitable. As wrong as it may be to boast about faithfulness, is it any less a sin to act as if victory is never possible? Fact is, we often fail in our professed obedience to Christ, and it is only by God’s grace that we ever stand firm.
Believe God for the victory, do your best to walk in the Spirit, pray for the strength to remain steadfast, and thank Him for His grace when you do not.
Be not proud of race, face, place, or grace. – Samuel Rutherford
