So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. – Revelation 3:16
Laodicea was a city into which flowed the waters originating from two springs. One spring was hot and known for its healing powers. The other spring was cold and known for its refreshing quality. By the time, the waters of both reached Laodicea, they were lukewarm and good for nothing. God designed each of us for the active pursuit of His purpose. To sit on the sidelines of ministry is to deny His authority, to be useless, like the lukewarm waters of Laodicea.
Yet, we are not all the same. Our passions differ as do our spiritual gifts and personalities. The goal is not to be a like someone else, but to be the best we can be according to God’s design and gifting, to be the best version of ourselves. This pleases our Creator and Savior and makes the most of His handiwork for the accomplishment of His will and purpose.
Some like it hot, some like it cold, but honestly, does anyone really like it “in the pot, three days old?”
Give me the love that leads the way. The faith that nothing can dismay. The hope no disappointments tire. The passion that will burn like fire. Let me not sink to be a clod: Make me Thy fuel, Flame of God. – Amy Carmichael
