Because He Prayed

Now when Daniel knew that the document was signed, he entered his house (now in his roof chamber he had windows open toward Jerusalem); and he continued kneeling on his knees three times a day, praying and giving thanks before his God, as he had been doing previously. – Daniel 6:10

Habits are activities that we perform even amid great crises or difficulty. Some are good and some are bad. When it came to prayer, Daniel had some good habits.

Throughout his long-life Daniel consistently honored and glorified God. When evil men told him that seeking the counsel of anyone other than the king would result in death, Daniel continued to consult with the One who gave the king the power to rule. He refused to allow anything to interrupt his prayer life, even death threats.

For Daniel, prayer was like breathing, a natural function of life itself. It could be interrupted, but never completely stopped. He saw prayer as a conversation with God, begun on earth, but continuing for all eternity. Daniel is one of my heroes. He lived a victorious, vibrant, faith-filled life because he prayed.

God shapes the world by prayer. Prayers are deathless. The lips that uttered them may be closed to death, the heart that felt them may have ceased to beat, but the prayers live before God, and God’s heart is set on them and prayers outlive the lives of those who uttered them; they outlive a generation, outlive an age, outlive a world. – E.
