For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world — our faith. – 1 John 5:4
We live in a world at war. Though there have been years when our nation has not been involved in an armed conflict, there has never been a time in my own life when every corner of the earth was at peace. In fact, the relatively new war with terrorism has virtually assured us (as Americans) that we will never know peace again.
While I am certainly no “dove,” I believe that peace will never be gained through guns or bombs. For that matter, it will also not be achieved through diplomacy or politics. Only the return of Christ Himself will bring everlasting peace on earth.
But what about personal peace? Can’t I at least have that? When all is crumbling around me, is it still possible to enjoy some tranquility? Not without His victory. My trust in God in Christ Jesus translates into the understanding that His will is always best, that it always reveals His greatest glory, and that it guarantees my greatest happiness.
This is the victory that has conquered the world.
Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God. – Corrie Ten Boom
