A Faith Humbly Professed

Whether it is pleasant or unpleasant, we will listen to the voice of the Lord our God to whom we are sending you, so that it may go well with us when we listen to the voice of the Lord our God. – Jeremiah 42:6

The leaders of Judah asked God’s prophet, Jeremiah to go before God and seek an answer to their request for relief from their suffering at the hands of the Babylonians. Jeremiah saw it as a fruitless effort because he knew that no matter what command God gave, these leaders would not obey it. Despite historical evidence to the contrary, they insisted that this time things would be different.

Emotional, half-hearted promises are always empty before an omniscient God. Even those who have been redeemed by the blood of Christ and converted by the regenerative power of the Holy Spirit must remain humble in our profession of love for Jesus because He knows how much we truly love Him. Remember how humbly Peter professed his love for Jesus after he had denied Him three times?

No matter how loudly, fervently, or repetitively we proclaim our faithful obedience, God will always know the truth. Profess your faith in Christ, but do so humbly.

The harder you work at what you should be, the less you’ll try to hide what you truly are. – Unknown
